Sudan Approves South Sudan Oil Exports

Sudan’s President Omar al-Bashir says his government will continue to allow South Sudan to export oil through its pipelines.

Sudan had threatened to stop oil shipments from landlocked South Sudan by Friday, unless the South cuts ties with rebels operating near and across the two countries’ disputed and unmarked border.

However, during a meeting Tuesday with South Sudan President Salva Kiir, Mr. Bashir pledged his commitment to implementing agreements signed by the two countries, including those that call for the transport of South Sudan’s oil through Sudan’s facilities and ports.

The two presidents said they are committed to maintaining good relations and opening a new chapter in their bilateral ties. President Kiir denied that his government supported any rebels operating along the disputed border region.
