Are Free Computers the Right Strategy for Tanzania’s ICT Breakthrough?

Tanzania can match the level of development that countries like India has attained only if it invests in Information Communication Technology (ICT) especially by training students from primary school level.

This was noted by some participants of a one-day workshop that brought together ICT stakeholders from East Africa. The workshop themed ‘Dell Master Class’ aimed at discussing various economic challenges that relate to ICT.

Speaking at the workshop, Mrs Umi Punja, a sales director at Computer Connection Limited which hosted the workshop, called on the government to emulate what other countries have done by adopting a policy of offering free computers to students.
