Looking for a tech job? You might want to head to Florida. It seems Florida’s Miami-Fort Lauderdale-West Palm Beach metro area has outpaced the national average for year-over-year growth in tech jobs.

According to a new study by The Computing Technology Industry Association (CompTIA), net tech employment increased in South Florida in 2018. This was a whopping increase of 4,262 jobs year-over-year. This was slightly above the national rate of 2.3 percent during that same time.

“Across Florida, net tech employment grew by a faster clip with 18,147 jobs added, or a 3.3 percent increase, in 2018 compared to 2017. Tech workers account for about 6.1 percent of the Sunshine State’s 568,000-person workforce,” South Florida Business Journal reported.

Part 2: Jamarlin continues his interview with Diishan Imira, founder of hair-care platform Mayvenn. They discuss how Diishan was mentored to think like a boss and “ask for the check,” and how much it meant to him to have investor Richelieu Dennis in his cap table. They also discuss New York progressives bangin’ back against Amazon and the growing negative sentiment against big tech.

South Florida does not have a major tech sector — the 148,489 technology-related jobs there account for only 5.3 percent of the workforce in the tri-county area. Nationwide, tech jobs make up 7.6 percent of the overall workforce.

But tech is growing fast in South Florida. In 2018, there were 43,608 South Florida postings for technology-related occupations in 2018, an incredible 130 percent increase year-over-year. Nationally, the growth in job postings was a 74 percent increase.

The occupations that have seen the most growth in South Florida include software and web developers (4.5 percent increase year-over-year), computer support specialists (3.6 percent) and network architects and support specialists (2.7 percent increase).
