Danish firm Cowi has won the output-and-performance-based contract to construct the 400km highway A104 in Uganda. The highway will link Mombasa in Kenya and South Sudan

The 403km project is situated in north-east Uganda, running from the Kenyan border to Gulu city. The existing road consists of various dirt tracks and new paved stretches. Upon completion, the new highway A104 will run through three countries: Kenya, Uganda and the newly independent South Sudan

Cowi project director Jan Holm Pedersen said: “First of all, this is a huge and very exciting project for us. “There is a great need for improving infrastructure in Uganda as well as in many other African countries. It is important that Cowi be involved in these kinds of projects, as it seems that they are the way of the future in Africa.”
