#LockHimUp: Trump Says He Didn’t Realize That Manafort ‘Was The Head Of The Mob’

Trump supporters chanted “Lock her up!” about then-Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton all through the 2016 election year, so it made compelling headlines when Trump resisters chanted “Lock him up!” as former campaign chairman Paul Manafort arrived in federal court Friday.

Manafort appeared in court after special counsel Robert Mueller asked a judge to revoke his pretrial release conditions as a result of his alleged attempt to tamper with potential witnesses, The Hill reported.

The judge revoked Manafort’s bail during the hearing and ordered Manafort to go to jail.

Trump tweeted about Manafort’s “tough sentence”, saying he didn’t realize that Manafort “was the head of the Mob.” Trump also said it was unfair that Manafort is going to jail but not Clinton, former FBI Director James Comey, “and all of the others.”

Pulitzer Prize-winning commentator Leonard Pitts Jr. once described President Donald Trump’s form of reasoning as the politics of “I know you are, but what am I?”

It’s a form of reasoning “that could not be more puerile, infantile, juvenile. So it very much appeals to Donald Trump,” Pitts wrote in a Nov. 17, 2017 opinion piece in the Miami Herald:

You got an example in (the 2016) final presidential debate, when Hillary Clinton called him a “puppet” of Russian president Vladimir Putin. “No puppet,” snapped Trump. “No puppet. You’re the puppet. No, you’re the puppet.”

The judge overseeing the case against Manafort ruled that the witness tampering charges levied against Manafort a week ago are serious enough to justify canceling his house arrest terms. Manafort will now be sent to jail to wait out the remainder of the time until his trial, Bloomberg reported.

This is a coup for Mueller, Zero Hedge reported. Mueller “has been trying to exert as much pressure as possible on Manafort to try to convince him to cooperate against his former boss.”

In the era of Trump and fake news, where crowd size, hand size and other sizes matter in unprecedented ways, the number of people who turned out to chant “lock him up” varied significantly, depending on the media outlet reporting it.

Zero Hedge reported that video footage recorded earlier showed Manafort heading into court as a group of maybe two or three people chanted “lock him up.”

The Hill reported that as Manafort exited from his car en route to the federal court, he was met with a crowd of protestors who shouted, “Lock him up!”

A Twitter user at #LockHimUp tweeted “Big shoutout and blessings to all the people who made signs and went to Lower Manhattan today to welcome Paul Manafort to court #LockHimUp”.
