Ghana’s Kwadwo Asamoah Returns For Juventus Following Knee Injury

At a time when injuries have ravaged the Ghana national team, removing a number of experienced and key personnel, fans will be pleased at news that midfielder Kwadwo Asamoah has returned to training following an injury sustained in September.

The Juventus midfielder ruptured the meniscus cartilage in his knee, forcing him to sit on the sidelines at Italian club since the club’s 1-0 victory against Palermo in Serie A action at the end of last month.

The Ghana international’s second-half appearance ended in agony, but after surgery to the knee he has finally returned to training in order to regain his fitness.

The injury has seen him miss the Ghana national team’s first 2018 World Cup qualifying group stage match against Uganda in October, which ended in a goalless draw. He was expected to be unavailable for the second qualifier against Egypt on November 13, but his early recovery puts him in contention for the match, should Avram Grant call him up.

The experienced and combative midfielder has struggled with injuries over the past two seasons, spending a great deal of time recovering from a number of serious physical issues.

Another influential player missing for Ghana at the moment is Andre Ayew, with the winger suffering an injury in his first Premier League match for new side West Ham United at the beginning of the season. He is also expected to make a return from injury at some point next month.

Kwadwo Asamoah back on the pitch

Asamoah has been a reliable midfielder at Juve in recent years, and only injuries have kept him from consistently contributing to the team.

The 27-year-old will likely return to the pitch for the Bianconeri in the coming matches as a substitute, with the Turin side facing Sampdoria on Wednesday and Napoli on Saturday.

His early return comes at a good time for the Italians, who are involved in efforts to win the Serie A, Coppa Italia and UEFA Champions League titles.

The former Udinese midfielder’s return to training is a huge boost for the Black Stars of Ghana ahead of the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) competition, which will be held in Gabon during the months of January and February.

Ghana lost in the final of the 2015 AFCON tournament on penalties to Cote D’Ivoire, and they will be itching to fight for the title in Gabon.
