Hilton Worldwide, a leading global luxury hotel chain, will build its first modular and tallest hotels in Ghana and Kenya as it seeks to expand its presence in three more countries across Africa.

The move is part of the hotel’s plan to increase its chains from the current 39 outlets to more than 80 in Africa, in the next five years.

“We remain hugely committed to Africa across our portfolio of world-class brands, continuing to introduce our hotels to new markets across the whole of sub-Saharan Africa in the coming years,” Patrick Fitzgibbon, senior vice-president of Development, EMEA Hilton Worldwide said in a statement on Monday.

The U.S-based hotel will construct Hilton Garden Inn, a 280-guest room in Accra, Ghana using the same modular concept, an innovation through which hotel hallways and guest rooms are assembled in China before transporting them to the final site.

The practice significantly reduces on the time taken for the construction. The Accra outlet will be the first Hilton Garden Inn in the West African country. It will be opened in 2018, read the statement.

In Kenya, the biggest economy in East Africa, the hotel will build a 255-guest room outlet in Upper Hill, a Nairobi suburb which is a prime business location in the capital, hosting international companies like Coca Cola company, a global beverages and soft-drink giant.

The hotel will be the tallest on the continent, upon completion. It will measure 330 metres high and will be opened in 2020.

The hotel chain will also construct an additional 76 guest rooms in its recently acquired Legend Curio at Lagos Airport, bringing its capacity to 130- rooms. It will be opened next year.

This will be the first hotel within the airport’s environment, in Africa’s biggest economy and will ease airline passengers’ and guests’ access to the airport’s facilities, read the statement.

Hilton Worldwide has presence in thirteen countries on the continent. It is leading the hotel development boom in Africa, alongside global giants like Carlson Rezidor, which has presence in 28 African countries, Africa Business.com reported.

There has been a boom in hotel construction across the continent. The steady growth in economies like Ethiopia, a growing middle-class and improved inter-connectivity have attracted investors in the hotel industry to Africa, CNN reported.
