M&A Africa: Who’s Doing What In 2016?

Longhorn Publishers, a publishing company listed on the Nairobi Securities Exchange, has acquired a 74% stake in Law Africa Publishing which publishes legal and related information books and materials in Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania.

Kenyan-based Plum has announced the acquisition of a 23.34% stake in British American Investments (Britam) from the government of Mauritius which seized the stake after an investigation into a Ponzi-like scheme operating though a company in Mauritius. Britam also has operations in Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, South Sudan, Mozambique and Malawi.

ISR Capital, listed on the Singapore Stock Exchange, has reached an agreement with REO Magnetic to acquire a 19.9% shareholding in Tantalum Holding which in turn owns 100% of Tantalum Rare Earth Malagassy, a Madagascan company. The Madagascan company holds a permit to explore and develop concession hosting critical rare earth elements in the Ampasindava Peninsula. The purchase consideration of S$13.27 million will be satisfied by the issue of shares.

Mucoba Bank has become the first upcountry bank to list in Tanzania on the Dar es Salaam Stock Exchange after raising capital of more than Sh2 billion during its initial public offering.

Nigeria’s leading industrial conglomerate The Dangote Group has completed the process of acquiring equity in the African Export-Import Bank. Neither the size of the stake taken nor the consideration vale was disclosed.
