Annual Inflation in Namibia Reaches 6.2%

Annual inflation accelerated to 6,2% in June from from 6,1% in May, the Namibia Statistics Agency said yesterday. Inflation was 5,6% in June last year.

The agency said all items index for June dropped by 0.3 percentage points from 203,5 recorded in May to 203,2. This decrease resulted in a monthly inflation rate of -0,2%.

The food and non-alcoholic beverages index for June declined to 239,8 from 241 recorded in May resulting in a monthly decline of 1.2 percentage points. This decrease was due to decreases recorded in the sub-groups comprising milk, cheese and eggs (2,3%); fruit (2,2%); vegetables including potatoes and other tubers ( two percent); food (0,6%); bread and cereals (0,2%) and food products not elsewhere classified (n.e.c) (0,1%).
