Namibia Future Home to New Non-Conventional Tourism?

From New Era

The former mayor of Barcelona, Spain, Jordi Hereu Boher says Namibia would be better positioned to become a hub for business tourism in the SADC region if it continues investing in road and building infrastructure.

Boher spoke during an interview with New Era last week. He was in the country to attend a seminar on sustainable tourism in Namibia at the Polytechnic of Namibia (PoN), themed “sustainable tourism through contemporary management models and trends”.

He elaborated that the country’s natural resources are its most important asset.

“Namibia has a unique environment. You have an opportunity to construct some of the best cities in Africa. You have the opportunity to create a new line of tourist market, different from the traditional line,” he said.

Namibia is also positioned to create a new concept of an African city different from the conventional city. Boher, who served as mayor from 2006 to 2011, was also of the view that Namibia can build a good quality of life to attract domestic tourists.
