Arsenal Announce Signing Of Egypt’s Mohamed Elneny

English Premier League club Arsenal have announced the signing of Egyptian midfielder Mohamed Elneny from Switzerland’s FC Basel.

The Gunners spent this week sorting out work permit and visa issues for the Pharaohs player, ensuring that they would complete the transfer within the market window period this month.

The North Londoners have suffered numerous injuries this season, and coach Arsene Wenger has brought Elneny into the squad as cover for positions which have been heavily affected by injuries.

The official Arsenal Twitter handle revealed the completed transfer with a brief tweet stating: “It’s official! @ElNennyM has joined @Arsenal #ElnenySigns”.

The talented youngster has been a Basel player for the last three years, recording over 90 league appearances and winning three consecutive Super League titles within the Swiss top flight. He will wear the number 35 shirt at his new club.

Elneny has been a solid performer this season, making 28 appearances in all competitions in the first half of the current campaign, while contributing six goals.

The 23-year-old defensive midfielder has represented the Egyptian national team on 39 occasions, scoring three goals, while he was a member of the Olympic squad at the 2012 Summer Games in London.

He joins Arsenal while they are experiencing a positive EPL season. The Gunners are currently joint top of the Premier League alongside Leicester City on 43 points following their 3-3 draw with Liverpool on Wednesday night.
