And The Winner Is… Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

The CAF Player of the Year for 2o15 was revealed at a gala event held in Abuja, Nigeria on Thursday evening, with Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang earning the award for his contributions for both club and country during the past year.

The other two players who made up the three man shortlist were Andre Ayew and Yaya Toure, who is a four-time winner of this accolade.

The annual award, sponsored by next generation telecommunication network, Globacom, and administered by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) was decided by a voting process that included the coaches or technical directors of the 54 national associations affiliated to CAF.

With this award, Aubameyang is recognised for his incredible form and excellent performances during 2015, having set the Bundesliga alight with his talent for Borussia Dortmund, while contributing to the Gabon national team on the international stage.

The 26-year-old Gabonese striker scored two hat-tricks in the space of a few days at the end of October, and has been scoring freely for most of the last year, including a goal at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for his country.

Aubameyang has managed to score an incredible 27 goals in 27 appearances in all competitions over the course of the season thus far, ensuring his demand in the current transfer window, and providing further evidence that he was the best from the African continent over the last year.

Many expected Yaya Toure to record a record breaking fifth award, following his national team’s victorious exploits at the 2015 AFCON, but it was not to be for the Manchester City midfielder, as the Gabonese striker deservedly topped his phenomenal year with the award that he was hoping to scoop in recognition of his efforts.
