Fanendo Adi Expecting Nigeria National Team Call Up

Fanendo Adi Expecting Nigeria National Team Call Up

Portland Timbers’ Nigerian striker Fanendo Adi is expecting Nigeria national team coach Sunday Oliseh to call him up for future games, based on a conversation the 25-year-old had with the Super Eagles tactician.

Adi’s Major League Soccer club won the MLS Cup 2015 title over the last weekend, and he has been one of the outstanding performers for the Timbers this year.

The physically imposing 25-year-old has been making a name for himself in the American top flight, but due to the fact that he has not yet represented the senior national team, he remains an unknown quantity at home in Nigeria.

Speaking about the possibility of playing for the national team, Adi was confident that he would soon don the Super Eagles’ green kit.

“I am hopeful (of being called up by Nigeria). I have talked with the coach and he has assured me I will get my time,” Adi said, according to AfricanFootball.

Adi’s contract with the Timbers will keep him in America for another year, but his form has meant that teams in England and Italy have reportedly shown interest.

“I have been hearing the rumours, but there is nothing official yet. I still have a contract with Portland Timbers, but we will look into any offers,” the player admitted.

The Super Eagles have friendly matches scheduled for early 2016 against the likes of Niger, Tunisia and Guinea, which could provide an ideal opportunity for Adi to begin him national team adventure, having represented the Olympic team some years ago.
