African Entrepreneurs To Pitch Investors At Angel Fair Ghana

Fifty investors and entrepreneurs from around Africa will meet do deals at Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra at the Third Annual Angel Fair Africa.

The Angel Fair 2015 kicks off Nov. 5. Ghana was selected as the third destination for the investor event after successful events in Johannesburg in 2013 and Lagos in 2014 resulted in a small but significant number of deals, according to fair co-founder Eric M.K Osiakwan.

For example, the Bertha Foundation invested in Vuyos — an authentic South African food catering business — which pitched in Johannesburg. The company was later featured in Forbes Africa magazine.

The Lagos Angels Network invested in Hutbay —  a Nigerian property and real estate marketplace —  and Autobox, an online shopping platform offering Nigerians auto parts and electrical accessories. They pitched in Lagos.

More such deals are expected to come out of the third event in Accra.

Angel Fair Africa has been making the rounds in the KINGS countries — a term coined by Osiakwan. KINGS is an acronym for Kenya, Ivory Coast, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. It’s a term somewhat similar to the Asian Tigers — the economies of Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan. KINGS represents countries leading the emergence of Africa’s digital economy. The event has been held in Nigeria and South Africa. Ghana is next, leaving Kenya and Ivory Coast as possible destinations for 2016 and 2017.

The event is organised by Angel Africa List with participation of investors from Ghana Angel Investor Network, New Generation Angels, African Private Equity and Venture Capital Association and Angel Capital Association and supported by Dimension Data, Chanzo Capital, Interpay, Servled and African Entrepreneurs Hub.

The event brings selected entrepreneurs and their startups from Pivot East, Seedstars World and Demo Africa to pitch, giving investors the opportunity to prioritize those they wish to meet.

In the afternoon, attendees will circulate to explore investment, business development and other types of deals. There will be panel discussions for investors and entrepreneurs  to share experiences and trends. This year’s event will showcase 15 businesses.
