Investigators have shattered a high-end international carjacking ring that shipped stolen luxury vehicles to West Africa, officials said Thursday.

Acting New Jersey Attorney General John Hoffman announced the arrest of 21 men that took part in the stolen car ring.

Many of the thefts — some at gunpoint — took place along the Route 17 corridor in New Jersey, which stretches from Hackensack to Mahwah, officials said. Several high-end vehicles were also stolen from Orange and Sullivan counties in New York.

“The criminals in this ring scouted golf courses, pricey restaurants, malls and suburban driveways to find the specific luxury cars they coveted, working in teams to commit armed carjackings and other thefts,” Hoffman said Wednesday.

After a 16-month investigation dubbed “Operation 17 Corridor,” investigators recovered 90 stolen cars valued at $4 million that were prepared to be shipped to West Africa, where they command higher prices.

Cars stolen included Land Rovers, Mercedes Benzes, BMWs, Maseratis, Porsches, Jaguars and Bentleys, officials said.
