SARU Calls For Springbok Support At Rugby World Cup

South African Rugby Union (SARU) president Oregan Hoskins has called on South Africans to support the Springboks in their quest to win the 2015 Rugby World Cup in England by wearing the green and gold colours on Fridays and throughout the tournament.

The Springboks are set to begin their World Cup title charge on September 19, with Japan as their first opponents in Brighton, and with only four weeks remaining before that encounter, the head of SA rugby is asking for the nation’s support.

Speaking to the media this week, Hoskins emphasised the need to show the national team players that they are well supported ahead of the tournament.

“The time has come to rally behind the coach and team and show our support for the Springboks’ campaign to bring the Rugby World Cup back to South Africa,” Hoskins said, according to SuperSport.

“There’s no more visible way of doing that than by pulling on your Bok jersey on Fridays to proudly show your support for the team’s hopes of making all South Africa proud. We want to turn green the factories, the shops and offices and malls of South Africa each week so that the boys know that the country has got their backs,” he added.

SARU have created a website (www.HomeGroundAdvantage.co.za) where fans are able to upload a selfie that could be included in the playing number of one of the Springbok jerseys which will be used at the World Cup, meaning that the players will have images of the fans to accompany them on their tournament journey.

“Heyneke Meyer and the team have my 100 per cent support. Now is the time for the country to join me in rallying behind them to signal our faith in the Springboks by wearing green on Fridays,” he concluded.
