Tutu Back In Hospital For ‘Small Investigative Procedure’

Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu underwent a “small investigative procedure” Friday and doctors are satisfied with his progress.

A week after being discharged, the 83-year-old was readmitted to hospital on Tuesday with renewed discomfort.

In a statement from the Desmond and Leah Tutu foundation on Saturday, his daughter, Reverend Mpho Canon Tutu, said the procedure was to determine the status of an infection Tutu has been battling to shake off for weeks.

Tutu was diagnosed with prostrate cancer 15 years ago.

“His medical team pronounced themselves satisfied with the progress of his antibiotic treatment.

“Although the cancer, itself, was under control, the infection was a consequence of past treatment that the Archbishop had received for prostate cancer.”

He will remain in hospital for further observation and treatment for another few days.
