Sulley Muntari Linked To Besiktas Move

Ghanaian midfielder Sulley Muntari has been linked to a move which would see him join Turkish club Besiktas as a free agent.

Muntari and his Italian Serie A club AC Milan decided to part ways at the beginning of July in a decision that both parties came to an agreement on, according to a statement from the Rossoneri.

Fresh reports from Sky Sports suggests that a deal is currently being discussed, and the tough midfielder is likely to complete the move in the coming weeks.

A disappointing season with the Rossoneri in 2014-15 saw the Ghanaian kept on the fringes of the struggling club, making only 16 appearances, and despite the fact that his contract still had a year left on it, the San Siro club decided that a mutual split was in order.

The midfielder took part in 83 games for the Rossoneri during his three years at the club, scoring 13 goals. His most prolific season was 2013-14 when he scored five goals in Serie A and one in the UEFA Champions League.

Muntari has been linked with potential transfers to West Ham, Everton and Hull City of late, while the New York Red Bulls have also shown serious interest, but the Turkish club seem closest to his signature at the moment.

Besiktas recently re-signed Ricardo Quaresma from Porto, and have been reportedly keeping an eye on striker Mario Gomez at Fiorentina. Their aims of strengthening the squad may see Muntari join the squad.

The Ghanaian has often been dogged by controversy, especially at national team level, where he was sent home from the 2014 FIFA World Cup along with Kevin-Prince Boateng due to misbehaviour in camp.
