African business that do business with clients in debt-ridden Greece say they have not been affected by the ongoing crisis in the European nation and do not expect any change in the way they do business with the nation.

“It hasn’t really affected us and I don’t know if it’s going to affect us. We do import some raw material from Greece, but I don’t think it’s going to affect us,” Michael Kalogirou, the co-founders of Fournos Bakery in Johannesburg — who’s originally from Greece, told BBC News.

In the same way experts say most nations on the continent have not and may not be affected by the Greece debt crisis that threatens to sink the Euro region into a financial crisis.

In an interview with BBC News, George Glynos, managing director ETM Analytics, said, apart from South Africa, many African countries have so far reacted well to the Greece crisis because they have very marginal exposure to what is happening in Athens.

“South Africa almost certainly would be one of the leading countries that would probably feel an impact because it is a highly liquid well developed financial markets system,” Glynos said.

The slow pace by which the Greece crisis unfolded also gave governments on the continent time to prepare for any eventualities.
